Our mission
The Center for Advanced Studies: Finance and Inequality (CASFI) at the University of Bonn aims to study the nexus between finance and inequality in a long-term historical and internationally comparative perspective. By integrating insights from financial history, business history, finance and macroeconomics the center seeks to understand how shifts in income and wealth distribution influence financial activities and vice versa. CASFI ist funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) to the tune of several million euros over the next four years.

CASFI is pleased to welcome back Catherine Schenk from the University of Oxford for her second visit to the University of Bonn and to introduce its new Fellow, Ana Laura Catelén, from the Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata. Both Fellows will be at CASFI throughout September 2026.

On 24–25 September 2026, the Center for Advanced Studies: Finance and Inequality (CASFI) will host the 6th Macrohistory Conference in Bonn. A highlight of the conference will be the Keynote Lecture by Kevin O’Rourke (Sciences Po, Paris).

John Turner Appointed Visiting Professor of Financial History at Goethe University Frankfurt
