The Center for Advanced Studies: Finance and Inequality (CASFI) is pleased to host the 6th Macrohistory bi-annual Conference on 24–25 September 2026 in Bonn. The conference will bring together international scholars to explore the historical and macroeconomic dimensions of globalization and de-globalization. The two-day conference features cutting-edge research on topics including international trade, tariffs, inflation, exchange rate regimes, sovereign debt, financial integration, and economic policy from a long-run historical perspective.
A highlight of the conference will be the keynote lecture by Kevin O’Rourke (Sciences Po, Paris), titled “From MFN to ‘Reciprocal Tariffs’: Non-discrimination in Historical Perspective.”
The conference is hosted by the CASFI in cooperation with Rui Esteves (Geneva), Eric Monnet (Paris), Matthias Morys (York), and Kirsten Wandschneider (Frankfurt). In addition to support from the German Research Foundation (DFG), the conference is funded by the Foundation for International Dialogue of the Savings Bank in Bonn and the Zentrum für die historischen Grundlagen der Gegenwart (ZHGG).
